Greenock Morton have sacked manager Ian Murray after nine months in charge. The club confirmed the dismissal on Thursday afternoon.
"The Board of Greenock Morton Football Club can confirm that Ian Murray has been relieved of his duties as First Team Manager with immediate effect," the club said. First team coach Bill Orr has also left the club.
Interim appointments made
Michael O’Halloran and Gary Miller will take joint charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis. "Taking charge of first-team affairs until further notice will be Michael O’Halloran and Gary Miller," the club's statement added.
The decision comes with Morton bottom of the Scottish Championship, having taken just one point from their opening eight games. Their recent form reads four consecutive defeats and a draw.
Club response and supporter message
The club thanked Murray and Orr for their hard work and professionalism. Supporters were urged to get behind the team during the transition period and attend the upcoming home fixture.
Murray, 45, was appointed in January. His departure ends any chance of a reunion with his former club Raith Rovers this weekend. He was dismissed by Raith over two years ago.
The interim management team will lead Morton into their next match against second-placed Raith Rovers at Cappielow on Saturday.
