Morton lost to Raith Rovers in the Scottish Championship on Saturday, a 2-1 defeat that extends their winless run at the foot of the table. The result leaves the managerless side with a solitary point from their first eight league games.

Jai Rowe gave the visitors the lead after 16 minutes. Michael Garrity levelled for Morton early in the second half, scoring in the 53rd minute. George Oakley restored Raith's advantage in the 67th minute, securing the points for the promotion-chasing side.

Substitutions and bookings

Both sides made changes during the match. Morton introduced D. Borso for S. Bashir in the 57th minute and later replaced goalscorer Garrity with D. Black in the 83rd. Raith Rovers saw D. Easton come on for J. Robertson in the 31st minute and L. Vaughan replace A. Lyall in the 71st. Morton's P. Croker was booked in the 26th minute, with Raith's K. Turner also receiving a yellow card in the 55th.

League position

The loss means Morton remain bottom of the Championship, having now lost seven of their eight matches this season. They have scored just four goals while conceding fifteen, leaving them with a goal difference of minus eleven and 21 points behind leaders Stenhousemuir. Their next fixture is an away match against Arbroath on October 10.

Morton manager Ian Murray said his side must change their results quickly to climb away from the bottom. "That gap is still manageable this early in the campaign," Murray said. The club sits 10th in the Championship with one point from nine games. Morton have now lost their last five league matches, including Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Raith Rovers.
