Ian Murray has called for patience as Morton's young loan signings adjust to the demands of the Scottish Championship. The manager's plea comes with the team winless in almost six months and sitting 10th in the table with just one point from six games.
Murray made the comments after a 4-1 home defeat to Livingston last week. The loss extended a difficult start to the season that has seen Morton concede 12 goals while scoring only four. Their recent form reads five matches without a win, with four losses and a draw.
Young trio yet to start
Jayden Gorman, Sahil Bashir and Dylan Borso are the three young arrivals who have yet to start a league game. Murray acknowledged the gap in experience compared to opponents like Livingston. "It’s a no contest when you look at the stats, and everybody loves stats at the moment," the Morton manager said.
He stressed that development was the priority for these players. "These young guys are only going to get better with game time and minutes, that’s been the main selling point this season when we brought boys in on loan, that we will be able to give them minutes," Murray added. The manager's focus is on integrating them gradually despite the pressure for results.
Preparing for Dunfermline
Attention now turns to a home match against Dunfermline this Saturday. Dunfermline currently sit fifth in the Championship, presenting another tough challenge for Morton's youthful squad. The team will need to improve defensively after letting in four goals in their last outing.
Murray's task is to blend experience with the potential of his new signings to climb away from the bottom. The match against Dunfermline kicks off at Cappielow on September 19.
