Dylan Borso scored four times to secure a dramatic 4-3 victory for Morton over Stenhousemuir at Cappielow on Saturday. The win extends Morton's winning streak to four matches in the Scottish Championship, lifting them to ninth place with 10 points from 12 games, a record of three wins and a draw from those twelve outings. This latest result, a 4-3 win on Saturday 7 November, means Morton's recent form now stands at four wins and one loss from their last five games.
Borso opened the scoring after just seven minutes and doubled the lead ten minutes later, assisted by Sandilands. Stenhousemuir fought back, with Dale Carrick and Euan O'Reilly scoring to level the match before half-time. Finn Robson then put the visitors ahead just after the restart.
Borso completes hat-trick
Morton's task was complicated by a red card shown to Calvin Okike for a last-man challenge on O'Reilly in the 27th minute. Despite being a man down, Borso completed his hat-trick on 51 minutes to equalise and then struck the decisive fourth goal with 14 minutes remaining, again set up by Sandilands. His four-goal haul brings Morton's total goals scored this season to 12, though they have conceded 20 for a goal difference of negative eight.
Manager Gary Miller made immediate changes after the red card, introducing Christopher Cupps for Harry Cochrane to bolster the defence. He later brought on Robinson for Michael Garrity to add fresh energy to the attack.
The result continues a strong recent run for Morton, who have won four of their last five matches. Their form has improved after a difficult start to the season which saw them concede 20 goals. Morton lost the last meeting between the sides 4-1 in September. This victory follows a 0-1 home defeat to Kelty Hearts on Tuesday 3 November and a 3-2 away win at Partick on Saturday 31 October, preceded by a 2-0 victory over Queen's Park on Saturday 17 October and a 2-1 win at Arbroath on Saturday 10 October. The team now sits 15 points behind league leaders Raith Rovers, whom they lost to 1-2 on Saturday 3 October. Next, Morton face a tough test away to fifth-placed Livingston on Saturday 14 November.
