Morton's Community Celebrates Summer of Football Camps
Morton in the Community has once again run a full programme of inclusive football camps across Inverclyde, providing opportunities for youngsters to play and develop their skills. The camps, which took place from Port Glasgow to Wemyss Bay, were designed to offer as many youngsters as possible a chance to play, regardless of their background.
Why it Matters for Morton
The community project, based at Cappielow, has run a wide football programme, which has included girls-only camps funded by Scottish Gas in partnership with the Scottish FA. The first three weeks of Morton in the Community's main camp were fully funded by the Scottish Government's Summer of Sport Programme, allowing camps to be free.
What Comes Next?
The charity also ran camps for youngsters with Additional Support Needs, which were funded through the same Scottish Government initiative. Playing a starring role in the sessions is St Ninian's Primary's Logan Howell, aged 10, from Wemyss Bay, who lives and breathes football. He added: "I just love playing football all day. I love coming along and being with my friends."
Community Spirit
Also taking part in the camps is six-year-old Ruaridh Hair, who goes to Aileymill Primary. He said: "I love playing football and I love scoring." Coach Shaun MacDonald told the Tele that being able to provide opportunities for everyone to play the game is a dream come true for the charity. Their World camp sessions have been hugely popular and saw dozens of primary school-aged players take to the field in Wemyss Bay.
League Standing
Morton currently sits 8th in the Scottish Championship, 38 points behind leaders ST Johnstone, with a goal difference of -16. The team has scored 36 goals and conceded 52 so far this season. Their next fixture is against Raith Rovers on December 12th, 2026, at Raith Rovers' home ground.
