With Morton struggling to get over the line this season, defender Kris Moore is calling on his team to approach their upcoming Championship match with Partick Thistle in a ‘clean slate’.
Moore sees the need for the squad to move on quickly from their disappointing Premier Sports Cup runs, which saw them lose four consecutive games. In their latest cup fixture, Morton couldn't find the back of the net against Inverness Caledonian Thistle, suffering a frustrating 1-0 home defeat.
However, Moore is optimistic about starting afresh with Partick Thistle in this weekend's league. 'Am I glad to see the back of the cup? Yeah, 100 per cent,' he stated. ‘Obviously, we can't completely ignore it because there are things that we need to work on and definitely get better at. But now it's into the league, and that's behind us.'
Although acknowledging the team was not up to their best during the cup games, Moore pointed out some second-half improvements in their effort against Caley Thistle. 'We all knew that at half-time,' he continued, admitting about Morton's poor first-half display.
While conceding responsibility for a missed chance himself, with a header late in the game, Moore emphasized how crucial such moments can be. 'Football games are defined on these moments,' he said. 'I should have scored. It’s the fine margins in the big moments that can make all the difference.'
For Moors, every game is a fresh opportunity to show improvement and contribute his best effort. ‘There's a lot of work to do, I think. But it just gives us something to look forward to now,' he concluded.
Morton faces the pressure of starting their new league campaign on this critical clean-slate philosophy, hoping that this fresh start will finally translate into much-needed positive results.
